Post Harbor- Now Streaming The Can’t Hurt Your If You Don’t Believe In Them

February 11, 2010

Seattle band Post Harbor will be celebrating the release of their second album in their hometown tonight as They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them, begins it’s online stream and pre-order today. With a physical release due on February 23rd by Burning Building Recordings the band is also offering a free download for the song “Caves, Hollow Trees And Other Dwellings.”

“Already grabbing headlines with a unique, vocally dynamic take on the post-rock formula, fans of Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Explosions In The Sky and Sunny Day Real Estate should take note. Post Harbor not only blurs the line between genres, it transcend the boundaries, pushing limits with ambitious arrangements and gorgeously complex musical landscapes. Expansive and reflective without compromising its focused precision, Post Harbor has the ability to transport the listener to another time and place. The ethereal vocals of Anthony Carlucci tremble with restrained emotion and act as yet another instrument in this expansive orchestra of sounds. With each listen, They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them slowly reveals layer upon intricate layer, and the results are often majestic.” (Beartrap PR)

Brendan Kelly of The Lawrence Arms: Rocking N’ Raising For Darfur

February 11, 2010

The Lawrence ArmsBrendan Kelly will be playing a solo acoustic set this Valentine’s Day at the Metro, as he and several other musicians show some love for fundraising with Rock N’ Raise- A Benefit for Darfur.

Rock N’ Raise is a student movement, comprised of activists, musicians and artists all looking to make a difference. “One month. One City. Dozens of schools. Thousands of energized, caring students. Together, we’re organizing fundraising drives across the city - in our schools and communities, with our friends, teachers, and community members” (Rocknraise.org) With aims to aid the education of the displaced children of Darfur, and formed through Youth United for Darfur, Rock N’ Raise has organized a series of concerts and events, with all proceeds to be donated to the Darfur Dream Team Sister Schools program, an initiative of the Enough Project.

“I was asked to play the show and I’m always on board for a good cause. This is a great cause, and I love the Metro.” (Brendan Kelly)

More recently putting the finishing touches on his soon to be released acoustic split with Joe McMahon (Smoke or Fire), featuring stripped down versions of previously released songs from their respective bands, Kelly has and The Lawrence Arms will also be touring the UK late this march.

Don’t miss Kelly’s performance along with Madina Lake, The Blisters, and Big Science this Sunday at the Metro. Doors at 4pm/Show at 4:30 $10 All Ages

Brendan Kelly took some time out of his schedule of juggling musicianship and a family life to talk to us about the first show he ever saw, what he’s been listening to, and how he intends to persuade you to check out Rock N’ Raise this Sunday.

Valentine’s Day List Countdown: 5 Songs That Make Us Want to Change Our Name

February 11, 2010

In honor of the impending Valentine’s Day holiday Reviewsic will be posting a series of songs inspired by all things lovely for your romantic listening.

Today’s List: 5 Songs That Make Us Want to Change Our Name

There are plenty of love songs out there, usually remaining with a cloak of anonymity so as to keep the crushing crooners singing in secret from found out. But some musicians step forward and proudly proclaim, “You. Yes, you! This is how I feel.”

Marie- Kevin Devine, Make the Clocks Move

A man known for his wonderful word choice in his lyrics, Marie is no exception. Honest and to the point (as all the best love songs are) we’re considering changing our name just to hear Devine tell us, “Marie, you got me thinkin’/Long term and being careful with my drinkin’/And looking forward to my holidays and weekends/Marie, I love the way you got me thinkin” It’s inconceivable to us to think that there’s a person on this earth that wouldn’t swoon over hearing “You’re all the pretty music that I need”

Jenny- I’m From Barcelona, Let Me Introduce You to My Friends

Simple and non-sensical, this Swedish 20+ band sings along with cheerful claps, an accordion, and horns while telling Jenny “I will take you far away/I’ll put you in a little bowl upon a tray/I know this is what you dream/we’re going up the Eiffel Tower you and me”

Song For Eric- Tori Amos, Silent All These Years

Haunting, whimsical, and romantic are the total embodiment of this acapella song delivered by an early 90′s Amos, written for her producer and romantic interest Eric Rosse. Simple, short, and sweet, we would seriously swoon if we were Rosse. Granted, we probably would react the same if Amos sang us the ABC Song, so we might be a little bias.

Kathy with a K’s Song- Bright Eyes, Don’t Be Frightened of Turning the Page

Well known and covered a hundred times over Conor Oberst has created one of the quintessential love songs for a generation of indie kids. Simple in all the best ways with an earnest, warbling voice, and chords with no real complexity we’re reminded of all the reasons why ‘love is real’ before getting a crescendo of twang and percussion presumably because the now screaming Oberst’s cup of love now runneth over. Lucky Kathy.

Emily Jean Stock- Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah, Some Loud Thunder

A little shrill and bordering on the bizarre at times, Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah isn’t the first group one might think of for a song about a sweetheart, but here you have it. Seemingly about the girl that everyone loves, our front man is letting Emily Jean Stock know “You’re not like me/It seems that people stick like flies to you/And my mystery/Is just that I’ve no one to cling to” that paired with the lines “There’s no one else/There is no one quite so perfect” Makes us hope that Miss Emily is humble enough to accept the compliment without letting it get to her head-that would just ruin the crush having cuteness of it all.

Having already toured around the world with their two past releases “Let Me Introduce My Friends” (2006) and
“Who Killed Harry Houdini” (2008) the members of I’m from Barcelona recently took on the task of and completed their latest release,“27 Songs from Barcelona”.
